Sea World Orlando is getting ready to launch its newest ride Manta, the only "flying roller coaster of its kind in the world". I have gathered some information, including a firsthand account from someone who has already ridden it several times. My source tells me and I have confirmed on Sea World's Manta site, that they will start doing a preview of the ride Monday 5/4/09 and the days after until the official scheduled opening date of 5/22/09, for a few hours a day. Employees have already been riding the coaster for about two weeks. Check the date on this video that got leaked to YouTube. I believe this was one of the actual first test runs.
Here is what they had to say;
I think it is the best coaster in Florida for sure. When you first load you are sitting up as a like a normal coaster, then after you lower the safety harness and are secure, the seats tilt forward until you are facing the ground and then you take off. If you are in the front row, it is literally like flying, you see nothing in front of you and it is amazing! It does about 55 mph and when you do the giant loop you are lying on your back and you can feel the g force. The back row is even better, the g force is stronger and the coaster seems to go much faster. You fly over water and do several spins and loops and if you are sitting on the left side you feel as if you are going to hit the walls at one point. I have also ridden in the middle of the train and the ride was just as fun, there really is no bad seat. For a true feeling of flying ride the front row, for speed and maximum force ride the back.Here is the company released viral video from YouTube, which is a really cool POV video of the ride.
All I need now is for my source to get me into the park and let me have a turn! I will update you if I do. I was there for the opening of Kraken and thought it was great the way they incorporated the coaster into the theme of the Park. What are you waiting on? Visit the site and find out more!

I actually went to the preview last night- it was a TON of fun. I'm a huge theme park fan, so getting the chance to ride Manta before it officially opens was great. It isn't like a traditional roller coaster, you're actually hanging facing the ground- very unique. Hope you get to check it out soon. Let me know what you think!
Follow @RealShamu on Twitter and check what they are posting occasionally. They gave free rides on Manta & free food to pretty much anyone who sent a RSVP. Here's some pictures of my ride on Manta thanks to @RealShamu...

Thanks for the info. I have some freinds that going to get me in.
I finally rode Manta two days ago and let me tell you, it was AMAZING. I really think it's a very well designed ride that everyone loves. I think the line queqe was cool too, a lot of times people, especially kids, get bored waiting in line; but that queqe was quite interesting. The ride itself is quite mysterious, too. The only thing that I didn't like, was the g-force on the first pretzel loop. I felt too much pressure and I thought my head was gonna explode. I've been on rollercoasters before, but Manta definetly gave me a headache because of that first loop. However, it's an awesome ride that people MUST ride (: Sea World did a brilliant job with everything!
Thanks for the info Amee. I was going to check out your profile, but the link doesn't work.
