Taverna Opa Restaurant

Are you looking for a quite, romantic restaurant for date night?

Well, this ain't it! Opa!!! That's how we were greeted as we walked in the door to Taverna Opa Orlando, along with a tornado of cocktail napkins swirling around our heads. First thing we see as we sit at our table is a line of people snaking around the room in some sort of Greek conga line and that is followed up with a table top kick line that you see in the picture below.

Taverna Opa Restaurant They start you off with an offering of pita bread and fresh ground humus. I opted for a Traditional Greek salad as a starter (below). I love Greek salad and it was quite nice.

Taverna Opa Restaurant For our entrees, my wife had the Chillean Seabass that is grilled with garlic, dill and lemon-orange zest and served with wild greens and rice. I went with the fresh herb marinated Beef Tenderloin Kabob and it was served with rice and lemon potatoes. Both were delicious and the tenderloin was so soft I cut it with a butter knife.

Taverna Opa RestaurantIt is hard to capture a moving target with a small cell phone camera, but that is the belly dancer making her rounds and getting people up and dancing.

Taverna Opa RestaurantIn conclusion, I'm no food critic and not much of a camera man either, but we had a good time and some good food. It's perfect for the whole family or even for a date night as we had. It may not be for those with an OCD for cleaning or those looking for a seductive dinner, but it will kick start an evening of fun.

I agree, this place is great. The hummus was awesome, made right at your table. It can be fun for the whole family. We took my dad for his 77th birthday (he has a thing for belly dancers). Anyway, he loved it! Your right, it's not a place for an intimate conversation.

We didn't take the kids this time, but we may have to. There was a little girl at the table over and she was trying to mimic the dancer and was having a ball with all the napkins.

You are definitely right about the Greek salad! it was very good! and like Christi said, the hummus was spectacular. I don't think we've had better, but most of the time we get store bought... I had the lamb chops that were cooked to perfection with a nice charred crust but pink in the middle. Talk about melt in your mouth! Very tasty. Christi also had lamb, but I forget how it was prepared. There was so much of it that we took some home. I don't think that we said a word to each other all night since it was so loud in the dining room. It was definitely a good experience, which was made better with the food being good as well.
